Guzzo Extempore

ad libitum, ad infinitum, ad nauseam

About Guzzo

Michael Guzzo, PharmacistMy name and title is Michael Guzzo, PharmD, RPh.

I’m known by many descriptions – Arizona pharmacist, amateur individual investor, chick magnet, Mexican-food junkie, rampant blogger, and a few other choice names.

Guzzo Extempore is the often humorous, but thought-provoking, pharmacy and healthcare topics weblog that I operate. I find humor to be the best medicine, and along with some personal commentary, that’s what you’ll find here.

How did I derive the unusual name for my weblog?

The moniker, Guzzo Extempore, was chosen because the topics I write about are often created in an extemporaneous manner, without premeditation or prior preparation, whenever I think the need to write arises.

According to the “prescription” Wikipedia:

Modern prescriptions are actually “extemporaneous prescriptions” from the Latin (ex tempore) for “at/from time”. “Extemporaneous” means the prescription is created on the spot for a specific patient with a specific ailment.

This is distinguished from a non-extemporaneous prescription which is a previously prepared generic recipe for a general ailment. Today the term “extemporaneous prescription” is reserved for a “compound prescription” which requires the pharmacist to mix or “compound” the medication in the pharmacy for the specific needs of an individual patient.

Extempore is the more modern terminology, derived from the Latin phrase ex tempore, “out of the time,” therefore “immediately, at the very time the occasion arises.” When something is performed extempore, it is done without premeditation or preparation, as the need arises – much like my weblog.

I’m happy to have you visit my weblog and hope that you enjoy it. So, make sure to stop by for a visit every once and a while.

Remember, a little jive is usually good for you.
