It’s Snake Season – Be Careful!

Posted on | May 5, 2010 | 1 Comment

No, I’m not talking about the Arizona Rattlers football team, I’m talking about real snakes – especially RATTLESNAKES. Now that we’ve reached triple-digit weather, you HAVE TO BE CAREFUL out there. A rattlesnake won’t always rattle before it strikes.

Don’t believe me? Here’s recent graphic footage of a rattlesnake bite caught on home video in Tucson, from beginning to end. This young woman is lucky that she got to the hospital quickly. I’ve seen cases where they had to fillet open patient’s arms to relieve compartmental pressure.

Except for this individual unintended snakebite case, and as most of us already know, there’s a direct correlation between envenomation and testosterone levels. The higher one’s testosterone levels, the greater the risk for snakebite. What this means is – most rattlesnake bites (and other animal bites) can be easily avoided. Don’t mess with the wild animals! Enjoy their beauty from a distance.

Here’s an informative article from The Arizona Daily Star, in Tucson, concerning the seeming prevalence of rattlesnakes striking before they rattle.
Don’t rely on rattler’s rattle to warn you of danger
